Christina Aguilera photographed by Steven Meisel – Versace FW 2003/04 advertising campaign

I say, then, that the tendecy and operation common to us both is to be continually renewing the world.

(Fashion speaking to the Death, in the Dialogue between Fashion and Death, from Giacomo Leopradi’s book Operette Morali)

I remember when the Versace advertising campaign with Christina Aguilera as testimonial came out on magazines I I was astonished at seeing the singer in the pictures signed by Steven Meisel so different from what she usually appeared in public and in her music videos. The singer was amazed at the self-image that transpired from those shots.
So, during a week in which I am living a life "so different" from what I was used, I thought that the wisdom of Giacomo Leopardi – even if his was a "satire of fashion, changing and irrational in its course" * - could not entirely be out of place next to to the images of a "very different" Christina Aguilera, dressed in the clothes of a Versace’s collection that I still remember, even if after almost ten years.

As to say I will never forget these last few weeks.

And let a new week and "different" begins...
